1 Answer. Check if chromebook is able to display 2nd monitor, via USB-c. If so buy an USB-C to HDMI (female) adapter, or direct cable USB-C-to HDMI. I presume there is also no VGA port on the laptop. Level 1. 11-10-2019 12:23 PM. Normally, connecting systems via docking station between the KVM switch is ONLY good for the video part, not for the USB part. You still require to have direct USB connection between systems/ notebook computers and your KVM switch.
KVM is what you need, and it needs to be connected to the dock and to your desktop. The desktop will not connect to the dock. And the desktop will have all its peripherals (except mouse, keyboard snd monitors) connected directly to it. Also network and power supply directly connected to the computer.

Yes. You'll obviously need a KVM switch that supports two monitors (Startech makes one), but you should have no problems using a KVM switch with a docking station. The bigger question is whether your work laptop has a way of connecting two monitors. A KVM switch won't help if your work laptop doesn't have anyplace to connect the second monitor.
