PA & Brooklyn, NY. Map. I consistantly get 210-220 mile for 4.5 gallon fill-up.. on my 2000 VFR800. The worst I got was 170 mile for 4.6 gallon, best was 256 for 4.96 gallon. VFR800 has been one of the easiest bike when it comes to maintenance, the regular stuff like oil/filter change, chain lube are easily done.
The results were as follows. Over the same 110 mile test route it used 11.5 litres in ‘D’, 10.7 litres in manual and 10.4 litres in ‘S’ mode, which is equivalent to 43.4mpg, 46.7mpg and 48mpg respectively. This is on mostly A-roads, averaging around 50mph in cold, busy, winter conditions.
“The V4 is regarded as a very special area of engineering within Honda, and the VFR is a special brand. I was very conscious not only of the VFR history going back to 1986 but also the more recent V4 history with the VFR1200F and Crossrunner and Crosstourer, because the V4 is going to have a long future as well as a long history within Honda.
VFR800 surging tickover. It is with some trepidation I post a bike related plea on this site, but here goes as I'm sure the principles are the same. Honda VFR800, 2000 model, 18,000 miles suddenly develops tickover of 2,500RPM (should be @1300), surging every now and then to over 3,000. Only modification is a Micron race can, been on for 10
The crossrunner is a parts bin bike, it's been made cheaply ( hence it was about £1000 cheaper than the VFR800 when launched, I would have preferred the instrument panel from the VFR800 on the runner). No bike is perfect, they all have little foibles, you just have to learn to live with them.
Not on the VFR800, where the instrument panel tells you what heating level they are set to. It also tells you your fuel consumption, average speed and what gear you’re in. With the 782cc engine idling in neutral, the temptation to blip the throttle and make the needle rise on the big central rev counter, unleashing a bit of V-four howl, is
